The Top 7 Pregnancy and Parenting Books to Read While Pregnant

February 26, 2021      Meg

Today I’m sharing the best books to pregnancy and parenting books read while you’re pregnant. Whether you are a first-time mom or already have children, there is always value in reading some good pregnancy books.

I was a librarian so when I was pregnant with my first I read a lot of pregnancy and parenting books. Wanting to be as prepared as possible I armed myself with all the information I could manage. I feel like if I was able to pick up one or two tips from each book it was well worth a read.

There are so many books out there and everyone will be more than happy to tell you what you should be doing. Make sure to find balance, take a few tips from everywhere and trust your instincts. Chances are most of your parenting choices will come naturally to you as you figure out your parenting style and the needs of your individual baby.

Top 7 Books to Read While Pregnant

Bringing up Bebe – I loved reading this book and the authors writing style. I had so many great takeaways that are still a part of my parenting style today.

Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth – Truth, I didn’t have a natural/unmedicated childbirth and don’t plan one this time. But I believe no matter what your birth plan this book is well worth a read. It’s a great reminder that our bodies are powerful and made to give birth. I picked up several tips that helped with the stages of labor.

Brain Rules for Babies – I remember pre-parenthood when I would see “that kid” the one who’s smart, kind and just an all around good kid and you ask yourself what was that parent’s secret recipe? This book gives so many good tips from pregnancy and beyond for helping you do just that!

They Say Parenting – Like I said, literally every person you talk to, every article, every book will have different advice one what you should do as a parent. This book is a great reminder that in the end you know what’s best for you and your kids. The author is so relatable and gives great tips for all the stages of parenting.

Baby Wise – I thought I would follow this book to a tee and have a baby blissfully sleeping through the night after a few months. The truth is I quickly learned I naturally follow an attachment style of parenting and didn’t follow a lot of this book. I did find a lot of value in the eat, play, sleep routine and getting on a schedule for feedings and naps though. It definitely helps the crazy days go smoother when you know what to expect.

Wonder Weeks – You could read this book after you have a baby, you probably won’t have the time. Much better to read now and then check back as you go through leaps. The app is also a great resource as you approach each new wonder week. It was so helpful knowing when to expect a rough patch and VERY spot on.

What to Eat When You’re Pregnant – This book is a guide explaining what to eat and what to avoid during pregnancy in each trimester. It even overs 50 healthy and nutritious recipes to support you and your growing baby.

Have you read any of these pregnancy or parenting books? What are your top recommendations for an expecting mom?
