I’m so excited to share our primary bathroom details for our new build! Small cottage bathroom combining simple white finished and warm wood tones. A lot of thought and planning went into this space to maximize our small space and small budget. I hope to love it as much as we do!
When we designed this space it was going to be a private bathroom for our primary bedroom. But at the last minute we made a quick switch to the floor plan. We cut out the powder room to add more space to the main living area and added a second entrance to this bath.
More space and one less bathroom to clean is a total win for me!
Here are all the details of how we designed our multifunction small cottage bathroom and all the finishes we chose:
Vanity
Vanity: I chose a 60’ vanity with a single sink. My husband and I don’t really need a second sink to get ready at the same time. I don’t regret it one bit. The extra counter space is way more valuable! We got this one for a steal from a seconds store through Facebook Marketplace. If you’re building or remodeling don’t sleep on Facebook Marketplace. It’s a great place to get all sorts of materials and furniture to get high end finished for much less. If you’re looking for a beautiful white and marble vanity this one is a great match to ours.
Plumbing Fixtures
We chose chrome finishes as a classic timeless and budget friendly option. The rain shower is a must for a spa-like experience and I couldn’t live without the wand option for washing my kids and cleaning the shower. I wanted a sink faucet has clean curved lines and a timeless look. I found this affordable option with good reviews and it works great.
Flooring
We carried the hardwood floors through our entire space. Having the same floor throughout the entire house honestly makes it feel so much bigger. Tile can be so cold visually and on your feet. I’m obsessed with the warmth the hardwood floors bring to the bathroom. I’ve read mixed reviews about hardwood floors in a bathroom but most said as long as you’re diligent about making sure you aren’t leaving water pooled on the floor they are fine. We would never leave puddles of water on any type of floor so this wasn’t a concern for us at all.
Mirror
We chose a wood mirror to continue bringing in those warm wood tones. This one is absolutely gorgeous and so much more affordable than anything else I looked at!
Towel Rack
Here we go again with those beautiful wood tones. Plus I love the peg style towel holder. It holds way more towels in a small space then traditional towel holders, works with robes, and is way easier to keep looking neat.
Glass Shower
We built the shower walls ourselves and opted to have the glass on this shower installed professionally. The shower walls are a porcelain marble 12×24” tile that we hung vertically. I almost went with white subway tile here but we were worried about keeping all the grout lines straight when laying the tile and then keeping them clean with hard well water. We decided these were a safer bet. I love how they turned out and the character it adds to the otherwise very simple white room.
Shower Bench
We skipped a shower niche to keep the DIY shower walls simple. I also always worry about keeping those little nooks and crannies clean and free of mold and mildew! We ordered this beautiful bench for the corner of the shower to store out soaps on. It also works great as a footstool and is tucked away where we would never stand anyways so it doesn’t make the shower feel cramped at all.
Shower Squeegee
Okay so who forgot to warn me that I’d be spending the rest of my life trying to keep my beautiful glass showers clean?! Seriously though the one recommendation we got from the installer was to squeegee after every single shower. Most of the squeegees I found were plastic and blah. I finally found this chrome one and love that it attaches to the wall with a suction cup so it’s not there forever if I want to move it.
Vanity Light
We were on a tight budget and I wanted to keep the room very simple and understated so I chose a super affordable vanity light that matched my other fixtures. This 3 bulb light did the trick and fits the room perfectly.
Fan With Timer
We have kids and didn’t want them to turn on the fan, walk away and have it still running hours later. This timer was a quick easy swap to make the room more functional. Just make sure you flip the breaker and verify the power is off to the switches before attempting any electric work.
So that’s it. Our simple but functional white cottage bathroom. Let me know what you think!
