Whimsical Moon and Star Nursery
I’m so excited to share my nursery reveal with all of you and my nursery must haves for a room that not only looks beautiful but helps make life with a baby a little easier.
You spend a lot of time in your babies nursery the first year so it’s important to create a calm, organized, functional space that you enjoy. I love to create a space that my kids can grow into because I don’t want to have to totally redesign their space the minute they become toddlers.
I chose a neutral moon and star themed nursery for my sons room. The space is so simple and clean and the face I love that it’s an easy gender neutral option. You could add different accessories through lighting, rugs, and throw pillows to give it different feel.
I really wanted to do a wallpaper accent wall. But — after removing wallpaper from our whole house I couldn’t bring myself to actually hang any up! Instead I chose wall decals. They are easy installed and remove if we decided to change the theme of his room when he gets older.
I love having a focal point in a nursery and for both my kids I went with a mobile over their cribs. The custom made gold leather star mobile is a show stopper and totally makes the room. It’s the perfect whimsical touch and I love how it gently spins on it’s own and pops off of the gold stars on the wall creating a 3D effect.
7 Nursery Must Haves
1. Changing station: We use a long dresser as a charging station. I have a changing pad, wipe warmer (let’s me buy wipes in bulk), and a lamp on top. I use the top drawers or the dresser to store diapers and other essentials (barrier balm, gas drops, nose frida, probiotic d drops).
2. Lamp with nightlight option: You want to try to minimize anything that could wake the baby more then necessary during those middle of the night feeds. I have a lamp with a nightlight option in both of my kids rooms. If you don’t want a lamp I love this option that gives you a night light and white noise in one.
3. White Noise machine: white noise is essential for baby and toddler sleep. It helps block out the noise from the rest of the house during naps. It also creates a sleep association so babies know when they hear the white noise it’s time to rest.
4. Rocking Chair with Ottoman: you’re going to spend a lot of days and nights feeding your baby, comforting them, reading to them. You’re going to want a comfortable spot to do all of these things. Our glider chair and ottoman have gotten so much use and have lasted me through two babies. If you’re short on space a recliner glider is a great option with a smaller foot print!
5. Diaper Pail: Babies smell amazing but their poop doesn’t! I swear by our Ubbi Diaper Pail! It’s stainless steal and traps the smell inside. It comes in tons of colors to fit any nursery. I love that you can use regular kitchen garbage bags and don’t need to buy expensive diaper pail bags designed for a specific pail.
6. Baby monitor: I’ve tried all kinds of baby monitors. With Arabella we tried one monitor that worked with its own display. These only work within so many feet of the camera in the nursery and the distance is cut down based on the number of walls the signal has to cross through in your house. I also tried the Lollipop Camera. The Lollipop baby monitor works on WiFi and you use your phone as the display. The downside is if you want to continually watch the nursery you can’t leave the app and use other apps on your phone.
This time I found one monitor that has the best of both worlds. The Motorola Halo Plus comes with a huge 5 inch display with a great picture and works with an app so you can also check in on baby from your phone. I also love the Birdseye view mounting option.
7. Organization: Organization helps keep me sane as a mom. We add storage cubes to our kids closets to store toys and books. I also love these drawer organizers to keep their drawers and clothes from becoming a mess.
Nursery Design Form + Function
Designing a nursery can be so much fun! I love a good mix of form and function. I want to be able to enjoy a beautiful space with my baby and to create a functional calm environment for them to sleep.
