We love sensory bins in our house. They are the perfect way to keep kids busy and engaged. You can create them super cheaply using ingredients you have around the house or adding affordable seasonal items from the dollar store. I love rotating through different sensory bins every month or every few weeks to keep Arabella interested and engaged in the activities. We use our sensory bins for both independent play and learning/preschool time. Our fall sensory bin has been a favorite activity this month. So simple and versatile they are one of our favorite activities!
Benefits of Sensory Play
Sensory play has so many amazing benefits for babies and toddlers as they are learning and growing. (Plus it might buy mama a minute or two to have a sip of her coffee while it’s still warm!) Children use their senses to take in the world around them.
- Builds fine motor skills.
- Encourages creative and critical thinking as well as imaginative play.
- Supports language development.
- Helps build cognitive connections in the brain.
- Involves mindful activities that can benefit all children.
Easy Fall Sensory Bin
Our sensory bin for fall is based on the things we collected from our yard and nature walks and the beautiful colors and smells of fall. All ingredients were from my pantry, yard or the dollar tree. (I spent $1 of some fabric leaves to create the bin.
Supplies for our fall sensory bin
- tri-colored rotini for an easy base that doesn’t need to be dyed or anything fancy to make it look beautiful
- pine cones
- acorns
- cinnamon sticks
- fabric leaves
- tools for scooping pinching
- container/bowls
- decorative or real mini pumpkins
We used our bin for learning about fall, imaginative play, fine motor skills, color sorting and more throughout the month.
