I love breastfeeding. It’s such a special bond but hear me when I tell you it was NOT easy for me. Maybe that’s why it’s so special to me because in both cases I’ve had to work really hard on it. As a stay at home mom I use my breast pump less often then a mom working outside the house. I still consider it an essential for any mom looking to breastfeed her babies.
My first rarely took a bottle. I mainly used my pump to relieve engorgement and to add breast milk to oatmeal and other homemade baby food once we started solids.
This time around I’m excited to pump more regularly to include my husband and daughter in the special bond of feeding a new baby. I love that they can give him a bottle while I get some work done or if I’m out running errands.
My Go To Breast Pump
I upgraded to a new breast pump this time around and chose the Lansinoh Smartpump 2.0. The pump is super quiet and I love that it lets you track your pumping sessions through an app! It includes an adapter, but can also be used with double A batteries or a car adapter for on the go pumping. It has a hygienic, closed system that helps prevent milk backup into tubing and parts are dishwasher safe for easier cleaning. There are three customized pumping styles to help mimic your baby’s natural feeding pattern and 8 levels of suction for power and comfort. It even remembers your last pump setting to simplify your routine. It’s made my pumping sessions effective and efficient every time.
Track Pumping With An App
My favorite part about the pump is that it connects via Bluetooth to the Lansinoh Baby App 2.0 and automatically keeps track of your pumping sessions. You can use the app to track breastfeeding and water intake. You can even set reminders to really keep your mom brain in check.
Silicone Breast Pump Milk Collector
The milk collector was new to me and has been a total game changer! It is 100% soft flexible silicone and suctions onto your breast to collect the milk during letdown so you don’t lose one precious drop of that liquid gold!
You can attach it to the side baby is not feeding on to collect the letdown and any leaking milk. It uses natural suction and can be used hands free to collect up to 4 ounces of breastmilk. It even comes with a strap and cap to prevent spills. It’s light, quiet, portable and dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.
I have an oversupply and overactive letdown that was causing extreme gas and discomfort for my son. I’ve been using the breast milk collector to catch the initial letdown before my son latches. It catches the fast flowing milk and he’s able to latch on after and drink more comfortably.
5 Tips For Pumping Milk
1. Create an organized relaxing spot. If you’re pumping at home having a pumping station set up with your supplies, water, a snack and a phone charger helps so much. Your body is better able to produce milk and letdown milk when you’re more relaxed. If you’re pumping on the go or at work an organized pumping bag with ziplocks to store used pump parts is a must.
2. Pump in the morning after feeding baby when your supply is highest.
3. Feed or pump often. Breastfeeding is supply and demand so if you go a long time without feeding or pumping your body will think you need to produce less milk.
4. Invest in a good pump! If you are planning on any bottle feeding then an electric pump is the way to go. I also couldn’t live without my silicone milk collector at this point because it has so many uses for such a great price.
5. Get a hands free bra. This lets you use the double electric breast pump completely hands- free because the reality is moms are most likely multi tasking while pumping.
Get your Breast Pump Covered By Insurance
