If your kids have or are going through a picky eating stage you are not alone! I’m writing this post right from the trenches. Most kids go through some sort of picky eating stage and the good news is most of them grow out of it pretty quickly. If you’re experiencing a picky eater or just want to get your kids to eat a healthier, more well rounded diet here are 5 tips for preventing mealtime battles and getting your kids the healthy nutrients they need. I’m sharing our go to meal using Arnold Organic White made with Whole Wheat Bread that’s sure to make your kids smile and eat the nutritious food on their plate.
5 Tips For Picky Eaters
1. Involve your kids in the process. Let them help with meal planning, shopping and cooking. If kids feel like they’re a part of it and have an active role they are more likely to eat the outcome.
2. Be creative with recipes and the presentation. I love sneaking healthy ingredients into foods and recipes. I add greens to smoothies, vegetables to baked goods and always opt for nutritious whole grains. I love Arnold Organic White White made with Whole Wheat Bread because it has the soft smooth texture Arabella loves but is made with whole grain! Cutting food into fun shapes or creating a fun playful presentation can be another great tool for getting you kids interested in mealtime.
3. Pay attention to your child’s preferences. Do they prefer soft or crunchy? Will they eat anything with peanut butter on it? Use these preferences when trying new foods or preparing ones they already know. Serving something your kids love alongside a new flavor can be a great way to expose them to new flavors in a low pressure way.
4. Be patient. Remember like most things in parenting it is a phase that most kids go through and will pass with time. It’s so important to stay calm and not add anxiety and frustration to mealtime or everyone will begin to dread it.
5. Set a good example. I don’t know about you but Arabella tends to copy a lot of what me and my husband say and do (sometimes the less desirable.) It’s important to think about the example you’re setting. Sitting as a family for meals and snacks, eating healthier foods, and trying new foods in front of your kids are great ways to be a good food romodel for your kids.
