Holidays are even more magical as a mom then they were as a kid because you get to be the one making the magic! I love making the each holiday a little extra special with fun decorations, drinks and treats. Arabella loves helping me cook and bake so we’ve been whipping up lots of fun Halloween Treats this month. These two Halloween treats are super simple and easy, even for your tiniest helpers! Best of all they include very little prep and only three ingredients.
Halloween Treats: Chocolate Covered Pretzels
These Halloween treats are super easy for kids to help with. All you need is pretzel rods, candy melts, and sprinkles or candies of your choice. They can easily be adapted to any holiday or special celebration and take no time at all to whip up.
Pro tip: make sure you are using almond bark or candy melts, not regular chocolate or chocolate chips. The candy melts are meant for this purpuse and set faster. Regular chocolate will take forever to reset and melts very quickly in tiny hands making a huge mess!
Instructions:
- Prepare trays with parchment paper for pretzels to set on.
- Melt chocolate in a bowl. You can use a double boiler or microwave and follow the directions on whatever candy melts you buy. I went with the microwave because it is quick, easy, and safe when working with toddlers or kids.
- Dip pretzel rods in melted chocolate and use a spoon to make sure you get your desired coverage. I like to cover my pretzels half to two thirds of the way to the bottom with chocolate.
- While the chocolate is still wet add sprinkles of candies. This was Arabella’s favorite part! (That and actually eating them!) We use a dinner plate under the pretzels to catch the excess.
- Place finished pretzels on parchment paper to set and cool so the chocolate will harden.
Halloween Treats: Oreo Mummies
These Oreo mummies are another fun spooky treat to make with kids. They only require three ingredients and took only a few minutes to make. If your kids are like mine anything with googly eyes is a win! Arabella loved helping me drizzle the chocolate and add the eyes. The best part is they don’t need to be perfect to look great so kids can have fun and create these on their own.
Instructions:
- Prepare a tray with parchment paper on the counter.
- Melt chocolate in a bowl. Again I used a microwave and almond bark. Since Arabella is helping and doing a lot of the jobs independently the microwave method required less hot pans and is the safest and quickest for us.
- While your chocolate is melting layout all of your Oreos on the parchment paper.
- Drizzle melted chocolate over the Oreas to make the mummies bandages. We just used a spoon for this part.
- While the chocolate is still wet add candy eyes.
- Let the mummies sit so the chocolate will harden.
- Enjoy!
We store our chocolate covered treats for 3-5 days in an airtight jar or container.
